Honey: exceptional benefits and virtues

Honey is a sweet substance produced by bees with flower nectar and honeydew. Honey is an entirely natural product. Amber fossils have shown that bees and honey were on Earth long before humans. It is estimated that they already inhabited our planet 40 to 50 million years ago. The medicinal virtues of honey have been known for several centuries. A recent study demonstrated its effectiveness on coughs.

Honey, for the record

In ancient Egypt , almost all medicine contained honey, wine, and milk. Since antiquity , honey has been used to heal , beautify the skin and embalm the dead among the Egyptians.

In ancient Greece , honey was used to preserve certain foods and for making mead.

The Prophet Muhammad recommends the consumption of honey to cure stomach aches .

Among the Romans, the exploitation of bees was part of general education.

Ayurvedic doctors prescribe honey to maintain healthy teeth  and gums  .

Virtues and health benefits of honey

Besides its taste, honey also has many benefits  and virtues . The nectar is found to be very effective in the treatment of cuts , abrasions and wounds .

Several studies have already shown that honey is particularly effective in treating coughs and sore throats . One of them even showed that giving honey to children before bed was more effective in fighting coughs than medication. This grandmother’s remedy is as effective on children as it is on adults .

There are 4 types of honey  that are effective against sore throats  and coughs :

  • Acacia
  • Lavender
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary

Prefer dark colored honeys  . These contain more antioxidants  and phenols , which are particularly effective in fighting infections  that cause colds .

On the other hand, thanks to its sugar, honey will relieve the sick by increasing salivation, which will thin the mucus and lubricate the upper respiratory tract .

Uses, dosage, instructions for use

  • Honey against cough:

Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Heat this mixture over low heat. Take 1 tablespoon of this preparation every hour.

  • Honey against sore throats:

Mix 2 teaspoons of honey with 2 teaspoons of cider vinegar in 25 cl of hot water. Drink it very regularly.
